Planet Venus

According to the Vedic scriptures and astrology, planet Venus or Shukra Graha is a celestial planet (one of the Navagrahas) which dominates various qualities of humans related to love, sex, attractiveness, music and dance and amusement sources. It is the brightest planet in the sky and can be easily seen in the north direction early in the morning and hence it is also known as the Morning Star. Shukra is the planet for various pleasures and delights such as bodily beauty, attraction, love, relationship, sex, wealth, knowledge and prosperity. A person appears attractive and attracts others, all due to Venus’s energy. Socializing is also a trait of this planet. It is considered to be a munificent planet with feminine characteristics. The placement of Venus in the natal chart determines the pleasures of marital life and luxuries. If Venus is weakly placed in the horoscope the individual may go through a troublesome or failed marriage, he/she may lack an amicable nature and physical appeal. This happens not only due to a weakly placed Venus but also due to the alignment of malefic planets with Venus.

The malefic Venus may cause a person to be controlling and dominating. It teaches us the valuable life lesson of self-worth. Venus rules the following profession: literature, poetry, theatre, film and sex industry, restaurants, textile industry, cosmetic and jewelry shops. Actors, actresses, beauticians, photographers, painters and people in other creative fields have a favorable presence of Venus. It governs the two zodiac signs Taurus (Vrishabha) and Libra (Thula). In Pisces it is exalted and in Virgo it is debilitated. Venus governs the following body organs: stomach, hands, skin, sexual organs, nose, chin and eyes. The malefic of Venus results in diseases related to these organs.

Legends related to Venus

Shri Ram

Shukra or Shukracharya was the descendant of rishi Kavi and a Bhargava rishi of the Atharvan clan. It is a Brahmin planet with feminine nature. Shukra was born on a Friday and hence this day is known as Shukravaaram in many regions of India. As per the Devi-Bhagavata Purana, his mother is Kavyamata who Shukra believed was killed by Lord Vishnu as she had given refuge to an asura (demon) that the Lord was searching for. Shukra studied the Vedas under the tutelage of rishi Angirasa. However, miffed by the bias shown by his Guru towards his son Brihaspati, Shukra went to learn under the guidance of sage Gautama. He prayed and did penance to please Lord Shiva and was given the Sanjivani mantra. He had four sons from his marriage to Priyavrata's daughter Urjjasvati and a daughter Devayani from his marriage to Lord Indra’s daughter Jayanti. Devayani married the renowned Somavanshi king Yayati. When Brihaspati became the Guru of the Gods, Shukracharya decided to become the Guru of Asuras. He did so because of his hatred towards both Brishaspati and Vishnu. With his knowledge Shukracharya helped the demons achieve victory over the gods and also restored to life the dead and reinvigorated the wounded. Another legend mentions the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu, Vamana. In order to help the Devas from the demon king Bali, the grandson of the great king Prahlada, Lord Vishnu wanted to deceive Bali and take the three worlds as alms from him. The spiritual master of Bali Shukracharya identified Vishnu and warned the king. However Bali was a man of his word and offered Lord Vamana his demands. In the Mahabharata, Shukracharya is mentioned as the spiritual master of Bhishma who taught him the secrets of political science. Although a master to the demons, Shukracharya is said to have a very good nature. Another fable involves Lord Hanuman and the demon king Ravana. It is believed that when Ravana imprisoned the Navgrahas, Hanuman arrived and freed them. All the Grahas offered their gratitude to Lord Hanuman. They all blessed him that anyone who worships Lord Hanuman will also be blessed. Hence the malefic of any planet (including Guru Dosh) can be removed by praying to Hanuman.
