Nepal, a major hub for Rudraksha trade, is filled with factories where lower Mukhi beads are altered by carving extra lines to make them appear like higher Mukhi beads. This problem has worsened with the sudden rise of sellers who gain overnight fame through podcasts, social media ads, and glossy marketing campaigns. Many who were once farmers or suppliers to retailers have now turned into sellers themselves, with no checks in place for quality or authenticity.

I urge every seeker to be extremely cautious when purchasing Rudraksha, especially high-value beads above 13 Mukhi. Here is what you must look out for:

1. Check the Mukhi lines carefully. The lines should be natural, with a whitish thread-like texture or a distinct groove structure that differs from one carved by a sharp instrument.
2. Check for completeness. Ensure the line is complete from end to end. A significant percentage of beads—around 20%-30%—come with incomplete lines that start but don’t reach the end. Such beads must be rejected.
3. Do not blindly trust lab certificates. Many labs have sprung up in last few years and all are unverified and part of networks enabling fraudulent sellers. These certificates often have no real authenticity and are used simply to exploit buyers’ trust.
4. Examine the seller’s credibility. Look for businesses that have been around for decades, not just a few years. Check their YouTube presence and verify if they have been consistently active over time. Read their Google reviews to assess their reputation and history. Go to other platforms to read more about them.
5. Be wary of unrealistic claims. Avoid sellers promoting Siddha Malas, Indra Malas, or combinations like 1-16 Mukhi or 1-17 Mukhi. Rudraksha does not work in this manner.
6. Do not get carried away by size. Many buyers are drawn to large, bulbous beads of over 30mm and end up paying exorbitant amounts. This is unnecessary. Even a smaller bead of 15mm, if strung properly and chosen as per your energy blockages, can give the same benefits.
7. Understand the purpose of Rudraksha. It is not a magic pill for instant wealth, success, or health. It is a sacred tool that works only when approached with sincerity, inner work, and correct alignment—and only when strung correctly.
8. Avoid fancy marketing traps. In this age of social media, fame can be manufactured overnight without real knowledge or substance. Don’t be swayed by glossy ads or influencer endorsements.
9. Seek proper counseling. Your Rudraksha guide will first help you identify your emotional and mental blockages, uncover the belief systems that hold you back, and then recommend the right Rudraksha as a supportive aid on your journey. Think of it as a healing process, not just a purchase.  The healing energy transfers through the medium of Rudraksha to you.  Just as you wouldn’t take prescription medicine from a pharmacist, do not buy Rudraksha from farmers or unverified Nepalese suppliers or the ones having shops in spiritual towns.
10. Know the truth about energizing. Rudraksha beads become energized naturally when worn on the body for 7–8 days. They do not require elaborate or costly “energizing” rituals in temples. A basic Vedic purification process is sufficient.

When you invest lakhs of rupees in Rudraksha, remember that you are not just buying a product—you are stepping into a sacred responsibility.
