Sri Durga Sahasranamam Meaning
The Durga Sahasranamam is a compilation of 1000 sacred names of Maa Durga, in Sanskrit. Each name describes the invincible Goddess’s superior qualities, and are very beautifully. Chanting the names of Mother Durga or the Durga Sahasranamam benefits with treasurable gifts for the devotees. Goddess Durga is a form of Shakti/Parvati worshiped for Her gracious as well as powerful, warrior aspects.

Durga, in Sanskrit, means “She who is incomprehensible or difficult to reach”. She is the mother of the Universe and represents the infinite power of the Universe. Maa Durga was formed by combining the powers of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma to defeat the notorious demon Mahishasura, who had terrorized Heaven and Earth. The manifestation of Goddess Durga is said to emerge from Her formless essence and the two are inseparable.
Maa Durga is also called by many other names, such as Parvati, Ambika, Kali etc. In the form of Parvati, She is known as the divine spouse of Lord Shiva and is the mother of two sons, Ganesha and Kartikey, and daughter Jyoti. Goddess Durga is also said to be the embodiment of Goddess Laxmi and Saraswati. Her image portrays Her with 10 hands, with weapons in each of Her hands. Maa Durga is the destroyer of sin and protector of the innocent and of morality. She blesses with material and spiritual contentment, provides invincible protection.
