The 3rd Chakra: Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra. Also Called As The Navel Chakra
Voice of Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra: “You are powerful and independent. You can accomplish tasks with grace and ease”
Introduction: Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra’s element is fire that radiates and transforms matter into energy, giving light and warmth. This Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra represents our “get-up-and-go,” our action, our will, our vitality and our sense of personal power, your ability to influence others through your opinions, role play and leadership. It’s the place where you go to for motivation to fulfil your life goals. It’s also the place you turn to when you need to stand up for yourself and demand respect.
Location: Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra is a yellow lotus of ten petals, located at the solar plexus area – the navel area – the place where one gets those butterfly feelings when we feel scared or powerless.
Description: The Sanskrit name of Solar Plexus Chakra, Manipura, means “lustrous gem.” You can visualize it as a glowing yellow Sun, radiating through the center of your body. On the physical plane, Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra rules metabolism, the process whereby you turn food (matter) into energy and action. Digestion troubles, stomach troubles, hypoglycemia, diabetes, ulcers or addictions to stimulants (such as caffeine) are all related to imbalance of the Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra. Weight issues may also indicate that the body is not properly converting matter to energy.

On all levels of life, a person with a blocked solar plexus chakra will frequently exhibit co-dependency issues. Physical, psychological, emotional, and social. You will develop a victim mentality and feel dependent on some people while being responsible for others. One may feel exhausted, powerless, weak, afraid, shaky, withdrawn, or trembling. There is a lack of energy and a fear of taking risks, confronting people or issues, and taking charge. There may be too much seriousness and not enough laughter, ease, or fun, all of which aid in opening, balancing and relaxing the Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra.
We find it very hard to be assertive and make decisions, too often relying on the opinions of others. We regularly attract those who tell us what we ‘should’ do, and find ourselves in relationships where we play the passive role to a dominating partner. A blocked solar plexus chakra can cause you to feel exhausted, lethargic, and aimless. This energy center plays a significant role in the manifestation of willpower and perseverance. When you have an imbalance in your solar plexus chakra, it may seem as if you lack the energy to accomplish everything you want or need to.
When our Manipura chakra is blocked our power is taken away by other people or situations. We experience fear, insecurity, and indecision when we believe we have no control over our lives. This can have a significant impact on our self-confidence, self-esteem, and social life. We develop a victim mentality as a result of the constant feeling of helplessness when this continues for too long.

A balanced Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra expresses itself in people who are confident, spontaneous and uninhibited. They act from their inner gut and they are ready to jump into the unknown trusting themselves. A person whose solar plexus chakra is balanced will be able to set boundaries and be assertive without being aggressive. It enables you to know yourself and to judge yourself and others fairly but not harshly..
Like the sun, the solar plexus is our main source of energy. It rules our passion, ambition, and our desires and it is the main source of our vitality. It represents our personality, our identity, and also our ego. It governs our freedom, our choices, and how authentic we are around others. Thereby, when it is balanced you would feel responsible and reliable with a sheltered sense of who you are. You will have self-respect and enjoy playfulness. You will be able to make quick decisions and meet challenges. You will radiate a warm personality and attract others toward you easily.
The solar plexus chakra controls our motivation, determination, and willpower. It rules how confident we are and the view we have of ourselves and hence once it is balanced it gives us a sense of purpose here on earth. When something in our life isn’t right, we feel it in our stomach, in our solar plexus. In reality, this is the source of our personal power and is the force that propels us forward and upward.
Will, personal power, accepting responsibility for one’s life, and taking charge. Intellectual capacities and a sharp intellect. Developing one’s own views and convictions. Making decisions and establishing the proper course of action. Clarity of personality and judgment. Self-assurance, assurance, self-discipline, and independence are all qualities of a balanced Solar Plexus chakra.
The overactive Solar plexus chakra expresses itself in the tendency to be aggressive and the need to be in control at all times. People might have issues of uncontrollable anger, with a judgmental and superior attitude. Over-functioning Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra can also be expressed as workaholics, who like to rule through fear and intimidation. Overconfidence, arrogance, and aggression may result from an overactive Solar Plexus chakra. We may feel arrogant, and our overdeveloped and idealistic sense of self is emphasized in everything we say and do. It may be stated that our inner light or our inner sun has been intensified to a point that it can burn either our-selves and others around us.
If your Solar Plexus chakra is underactive, you are more prone to be drawn into energy-draining and overpowering emotional states like powerlessness and guilt. An underactive Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra means an underactive flowing of energy and willpower to have things done and make your own way in your life. With your externally-oriented motor turned off and not enough powered you feel disconnected from your purpose in life or your dharma, or you don’t have enough mental and physical energy to follow it accordingly, which can lead to feelings of isolation and withdrawal from life.
All the diseases associated with the digestive tracts ranging from chronic or acute indigestion (not wanting to keep something down), anorexia and bulimia, gastric or duodenal ulcers (digestion problems), colon/intestinal issues, cancer of the stomach, intestines and pancreas, weight issues. Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra issues also express themselves in the diseases of the liver, (which is responsible for detoxification of the body) such as liver infections, hepatitis and liver cancer, gallbladder cancer. The solar plexus chakra also influences the function of the pancreas, which can result in pancreatitis, diabetes, hypoglycemia or pancreatic cancer. Other areas affected range from arthritis, Chronic Fatigue (ME), to allergies and adrenal malfunction.
Releasing co-dependency to others is key to unlock this chakra. When we give too much worth to the opinion of others, we are unable to let go of hurt that comes along with it. Pain and memories of victimization are also felt. If you torment yourself with anger and cannot let go of the past then disempowering thoughts will decrease your energy levels to take steps forward in your life and take charge of your life.
When we seek approval from people, we send a cord of energy from our solar plexus chakra to theirs. We literally transfer them our power. We are paralyzed by the fear of other people’s disapproval. Our self becomes totally dependent on their smile or frown. We then give our power to them, wanting them to approve of our action.
We have integrity when our thoughts, feelings and actions are in alignment. Integrity ultimately comes when you are truly being you, walking, talking and being you in everything you do. Learning to discipline your body and train it to obey the mind is fundamental to balance the solar plexus chakra. An undisciplined life and lifestyle damage this chakra and lowers your self-respect. Honouring your commitment to others in action and words and also honouring your time commitments helps build self-respect.
Boosting your independence opens and balances your Manipura chakra. In life, you are independent when you assume your responsibility for your actions and inactions, your doings and wrongdoings, and the whole lot under your control. You are also responsible for your happiness and how you interact with your surroundings, positively or negatively.
Relying your needs and contentment on others is losing your power and becoming dependent on family, friends, job and whatever you might think it will give you the support you cannot give to yourself. Because of this dependency, you may try to control that person/situation to your advantage. You do not allow for free will neither in others or you.
