Description

Har Ki Pauri is one of the most famous ghats located on the banks of the holy river Ganga in the holy city of Haridwar. It is believed that Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu have visited Har Ki Pauri, also known as Brahm Kund in ancient times. The ghat was originally built by King Vikramaditya in the 1st century BC and is the exit point of Ganga from the mountains and entry into the plains.

Har Ki Pauri gets its name from the feet (Pauri) of lord (Hari). Vishnu Charan Paduka, the footprints of the Lord, is believed to be imprinted on the wall beneath the waters of Ganga here. Har Ki Pauri is also the place where the amrit (divine nectar) fell from celestial Kumbh and thus the Maha Kumbh mela is held here every 12 years. Every evening rituals and Aarti are performed by priests on the banks of holy Ganga.
