Description

The Chandi Devi Temple is located atop the Neel Parvat in Haridwar. The temple is dedicated to Goddesses Chandi Devi. Although the current temple was built by King Suchat Singh in 1929, the main idol of the Goddess was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. The Chandi Devi Temple is revered as a Siddh Peetha (where wishes of devotees are fulfilled). Goddess Chandi fulfills all the wishes of her true devotees.

Legend goes that two demon kings, Shumbha and Nishumbha captured heaven, the kingdom of Lord Indra. All Gods prayed to Maa Parvati for help and Maa Parvati assumed the form of Goddess Chandi also known as Chandika and slayed the demons. The Goddess is believed to have taken rest at the Neel Parvat after the slaying of Shumbha and Nishumbha.
