Description
Shree Mahalaxmi Temple is located in Mumbai Maharashtra. This Mahalaxmi temple is dedicated to the Goddesses Shree Mahalakshmi (Goddess of Wealth), Shree Mahakali or Durga (Destroyer of Demon) and Shree Maha Saraswati (Goddess of Learning). The idols of all the three Goddesses have been molded in gold and are bejeweled with nose rings, gold bangles and pearl necklaces.
Thousands of devotees visit the Mahalaxmi Temple daily and the numbers increase many a folds during the Navratri festival. The Mahalaxmi Temple was constructed in 1785 A.D. when a chief engineer Shri Ramji Shivji Prabhu who was unsuccessfully trying to build a link two islands (creeks) dreamt about the idols in the sea. The Goddess in his dreams instructed the chief engineer to find the idols and construct the temple on top of a hillock. The idols were found and the temple was constructed and then the link between the two islands was constructed without a hitch.
