Sudarshana is the holy wheel of 108 serrated edges which Lord Vishnu uses as his chief weapon. The Word “Sudarshana” it self means “Su” – right or correct, “darshana” means vision. When one evokes Sudarshan with prayers, it sets out to fulfil the intention of the devotee. It is said that the Sudarshana Chakra is not thrown. With will-power it is sent and it returns back to the sender only after completing the task. It has tremendous occult and spiritual power to clear everything that comes in way of obstacles, enemy or darkness. It is said that nobody can stand against the Sudarshana Chakra. In the story of Samurdra manthan, Lord Vishnu used the Sudarshan chakra to cut through the demon Swarbanu who then became Rahu and Ketu.
As per the tantric texts, there are ten types of Mantravada doshas from 10 directions, called Marana (Death), Uchatana (Separation), Mohana, Vidhveshana (misunderstanding), Manthra, Tanthra (spell), Visha choorna (Poison), Prayoga, Abhichara (black magic) and Kruthrima (deception). Sudarshan chakra is said to destroy this doshas.
Therefore performing Sudarshan Homa is done to evoke the protection aspect of the chakra and also the victory aspect.
