Vishwakarma Chalisa is a devotional hymn of 40 verses dedicated to Lord Vishwakarma, the architect of Gods. He is worshipped reverently by architects, engineers, mechanics, sculptors, craftsmen of any kind, those involved in construction work of buildings etc., for success and prosperity in their ventures. Lord Vishwakarma is also worshipped by people who work with any kind of machines and tools.
The Vishwakarma Chalisa Paath is performed for blessings of success in profession/projects, overcoming hurdles in career path, removal of Vastu Doshas, fulfilling wishes of owning house and immovable assets, smooth functioning of machines, safety in factories/mills/ workshops an more.
He is regarded as the son of Vastudev and Angirasi and a descendant of Lord Brahma. As per scriptures, Lord Vishwakarma built heaven in Satyuga, Lanka in Treta Yuga, Dwarka in Dwapar and Hastinapur and Indraprastha before the beginning of Kali Yuga. It is believed that the city of Dwarka was built by Lord Vishwakarma in one night. He also built the huge idols located in the Jagannath Temple in Puri. The Pushpak Vimana and all Divine weapons of Gods such as Vajra of Lord Indra, Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Krishna were made by Lord Vishwakarma. He also imparted the knowledge of Vastu Shastra to mankind for their betterment. Lord Vishwakarma is worshipped by all professionals, He is the presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects. It is customary for craftsmen to worship their tools in His name.
